3. 2006 Summer Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten (VPK) Education Program
   Minutes: The Department of Early Childhood Education provided Board Members with an overview of the upcoming 2006 Summer Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten (VPK) Education Program. This presentation highlighted State mandates and the proposed plan for instructional hours, staffing, student recruitment, and school site selection.
   
   Wayne Gent, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Learning Support, presented Board Members with information on the following topics: Governance; VPK Program Options; Summer VPK Legislation; Summer School Sites/Classrooms; Summer VPK Schedule; Staffing/Instructional Day; Registration Process for Students; Curriculum; and Timeline.
   
   Board Members discussed: the application process; getting information to parents; high scope curriculum; Project Child; funding; data on who we are missing; and transportation issues.
